Jill Kidger: Myddelton Botanical Artist

Jill has been pursuing her interest in Botanical Illustration since retirement. She studied at Capel Manor College with the world famous Kew Herbarium illustrator Christabel King. She is a volunteer at Myddelton House Gardens and a member of the E A Bowles of Myddelton House Society. She puts on an exhibition of her work each year at MHG and the proceeds of sales go to support the gardens. Greeting cards from her original images are also on sale at the exhibitions and at E.A. Farewell to James Hall, our wonderful Head Gardener

We said farewell to James, who is taking up a new post at the RHS Bridgewater Garden project in Salford (rhs.org.uk/bridgewater). James has led the work at Myddelton for four years and the gardens are looking better than ever. He will be sorely missed. On behalf of the Society, Chairman Peter Dreblow presented James with the new snowdrop book, 'The Galanthophiles' by Jane Kilpatrick and Jennifer Harmer. All the best James!

The Ultimate Snowdrop Sale

The Ultimate Snowdrop Sale and Snowdrops Gardeners’ Coffee Morning were a huge success! Snowdrop enthusiasts came from far and wide for the eighth Ultimate Snowdrop Sale at Myddelton House Gardens on Saturday 26 January. After a final countdown, Head Gardener James Hall officially opened the sale at 10.30am, lowering the rope and ringing the bell. The 248 visitors, who had been queuing around the block, ran towards the stalls, all keen to get their hands on a new bulb for their garden or collection. Specialist nurseries exhibited both common and rare varieties of the much sought after bulb, with prices ranging from as little as £5 to sums of £1,000 per plant for the Dryad Gold variety of sno
