Myddelton wins Enfield in Bloom
The award winning Myddelton House Gardens has picked up yet another top prize after winning gold at this year’s Enfield in Bloom Awards.
North London’s beautiful Myddelton House Gardens won another gold accolade at last week’s Enfield in Bloom Awards during a ceremony which took place at The Chace Hotel on Thursday 16 November.
The eight acre site, located on Bulls Cross in Enfield, won Exceptional Horticultural Contribution for the Local Community category in recognition of the venue’s first-rate facilities, manicured gardens and continued role in engaging with local community groups and visitors.
Gardener and Outreach Worker Eliza Kemp, one of the gardens’ newest recruits, has joined the team to focus on developing stronger links with community and other interest groups, as part of the venue’s objective to connect with local visitors. In addition to encouraging more people to visit Myddelton House Gardens, the venue also plans to run onsite community based projects from 2018.
One of 14 outdoor parks and open spaces managed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Myddelton House Gardens is renowned for its unusual and exotic plants - a tradition established by renowned horticulturist and writer E A Bowles, who lived at the house and cultivated plants throughout his life.
This latest gold standard joins a growing number of honours awarded to the gardens in 2017: In July, Keep Britain Tidy bestowed the site with Heritage Green Flag status in acknowledgement of the Regional Park Authority’s successful management of venue’s historic importance. In September, the London in Bloom Awards bestowed gold on the gardens in the Large Park of the Year category.
James Hall, Myddelton House Gardens’ Head Gardener said. “When you’re out there on a cold December morning digging up weeds, an award is the last thing on your mind, and I am sure my team would agree.
“However, we are all really chuffed that our work has been recognised with this award – and we want to keep creating even better gardens for people to enjoy, whatever the weather.”
